Job Description:
To create learning opportunities for an intern interested in a career as a City Planner.

Examples of Duties:
Collect data, conduct research on zoning-related tasks, perform document inventory, and provide technical and administrative support for the Department.

-Conduct reviews, with the guidance of staff, of rezoning applications and new development in the City.
-Attend City Council, Planning and Zoning Board, and other meetings.
-Assist staff with the newly adopted UDO and implementation of the Maple Avenue Corridor Plan.
-Prepare agendas and other materials for presentations.
-Provide excellent customer service both in and out of the office setting.
-Perform records inventory and scanning, data collection, database development, and document editing.
-Support staff with general office administration.

Qualifications:
Must be able to comply with instructions, meet deadlines, and be timely; contribute technical knowledge and creativity to department staff. Excellent organizational and communication skills are necessary. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google Earth, Adobe, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), and website content development is desired. This position will occur in an office/indoor setting with occasional outdoor fieldwork. Appropriate business casual dress will be expected during working hours.

Projects to Match Your Unique Skills and Career Goals
Working under the guidance of a host supervisor and EDF engagement manager, fellows uncover strategic energy management and climate solutions for their host organization. Projects culminate in a written report and series of recommendations to the host organization. Projects may focus on:

• Scaling Energy Efficiency: Identify energy and cost-saving measures, evaluate financing options and explore opportunities to implement advanced energy management technologies across a portfolio of buildings.
• Creating Commitments: Develop GHG targets that are based in science and create strategies to achieve emission reduction goals through data-driven analysis such as energy benchmarking and carbon accounting.
• Accelerating Renewables & Electrification: Uncover opportunities for renewable energy generation, create strategies for increasing resiliency through microgrids and recommend tactics to increase the adoption of electric vehicles.
• Evaluating Supply Chain Sustainability: Quantify and baseline scope 3 emissions and develop recommendations for engaging suppliers on energy related emission reduction opportunities.

Required Qualifications
• Current or recent graduate student studying engineering, business, sustainability, environmental management, public policy or relevant degree
• 2 years of applicable work experience
• Self-starter with strong project management and leadership experience
• Superior oral and written communication skills, including presentation skills
• Completion of graduate-level finance coursework by the summer of 2020
• A passion for solving environmental challenges
• Eligibility to work in the United States during the summer of 2020

Desired Qualifications
• Strong financial and quantitative skills, including project valuation
• Demonstrated experience working on energy efficiency, clean energy or sustainability projects
• Proficiency in quantitative and qualitative data analysis
• Understanding of greenhouse gas emissions accounting and reporting frameworks (e.g., CDP, GHG Protocol, The Climate Registry)
All selected EDF Climate Corps fellows will attend a week-long training in May 2020.

Compensation
$1,250 per week and reimbursement of travel costs to the training and EDF Climate Corps Summit, an annual fall conference.
