Robinson Engineering Co. is a diversified civil engineering and planning firm with a staff of over 175 full-time, experienced professionals and support personnel who are in 12 offices located throughout West Virginia, Ohio, Kentucky, North Carolina, Virginia, and South Carolina. Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science, Planning, Engineering or related field or equivalent experience. Master’s degree applicants are welcome.

The position will include the following knowledge and skills:

• Familiarity with National Environmental Policy Act and North Carolina Environmental Policy Act (NEPA-SEPA) procedures.
• Ability to prepare environmental documents and technical studies per NEPA/SEPA guidelines for state and federal agencies.
• Familiarity with travel demand modeling principles including socio-economic and land use forecasting.
• Experience with ArcGIS is a plus- preparing maps, conducting spatial and temporal data analysis including data collection, management and visual information systems.
• Familiarity with demographic data sources including census files, American Community Survey data, etc.
• Familiarity with community impact assessment principles including social and economic analysis.
• Assist with public involvement activities (meetings, mailings, media announcements, graphics, website management, etc.) and ensure compliance with agency public involvement requirements.
• Familiarity with natural systems surveys and impact assessment (i.e. 401/404 permitting, wetland delineations, natural resource surveys, etc.)
• Strong capability in the use of computer applications including MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
• Ability to follow direction and work in a team environment
• Ability to work on multiple projects concurrently
• Good verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to prepare technical reports
• Motivated to learn and think critically

ACLS is pleased to announce the tenth annual competition of the Mellon/ACLS Public Fellows program. The program promotes the visibility and value of the humanities PhD beyond the academy by offering opportunities for PhDs to contribute to the public good while gaining career-building experience in the fields of policy, community development, conservation, arts and culture, and media. This initiative is made possible through the support of The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation.

In 2020, the program is offering 21 two-year term positions at organizations in government and nonprofit sectors for recent PhDs from the humanities and humanistic social sciences. Fellows will participate in the substantive work of these organizations and will have opportunities for networking, mentoring, and career development programming, both in-person and virtually. Fellows receive a stipend of $70,000 per year and have access to employer-based health insurance through the host organization. This class is the second level in a five-level Planning Series devoted to paraprofessional and professional support of municipal planning for a variety of operations and functions including strategic planning, comprehensive planning, land use, community development, parks, and operational planning. Incumbents provide professional journey-level planning work in the area of assignment.

Provide intermediate technical and professional support of CMAP’s long-range comprehensive regional planning, the Local Technical Assistance (LTA) program, and research, data analysis, and mapping work to contribute to the agency’s long-range and local planning efforts. Planning projects may include intermediate level comprehensive plans, corridor or subarea plans, zoning revisions, studies of special topics such as housing or economic development, and similar planning activities. Research and analysis projects may include intermediate level GIS mapping, data processing, quantitative spatial analyses, and the development and documentation of new business intelligence tools and products, and methodologies for quantitative analysis.

The purpose of this position is to support the Durham-Chapel Hill-Carrboro Metropolitan Planning Organization (DCHC MPO) Transportation Planning process (3C process). This position requires a self-starter with excellent written and oral communication skills who works well with minimal supervision.

Decision-making includes providing input into management objectives, establishing work goals and objectives to carry out management direction, and selecting the method to address a problem or issue, subject to the constraints established by management objectives and direction. The Planner I position is an entry level planning position involving the provisions of technical assistance to the planning division for current planning activities. This positions handles day-to-day functions of building permit review, entry level case management, preparation of graphic illustrations, maps and photographic materials, conducting research as needed, and Planner-of-the-Day duties to support the implementation and maintenance of the Comprehensive Plan and Land Development code. The UNC Charlotte Urban Institute (Institute) is hiring an Associate Director of Research who will also serve as the Director of Community Research Services (Director). The Director will serve as the day-to-day manager of the Institute research team and will manage ongoing tasks that enable the Institute to provide research with/for the Charlotte, North Carolina region, including evaluation services, neighborhood and regional indicator work, and other engaged and applied research efforts. The Director will also lead and advise research projects related to their own substantive, methodological, and analytic expertise.
