This position serves the role of Zoning Administrator for the City and department head in the absence of the Planning Director. Works under general supervision of the Planning Director.

As a member of the Engineering and development review team, this position will be responsible for a wide range of transportation, development, and land use planning assignments. The successful candidate will administer and work on periodic updates to the Comprehensive Transportation Plan (CTP), as well as other planning documents; assist in short and long range plans based on future land use plan; review site plans, preliminary subdivisions, and construction plans for compliance with applicable transportation-related plans and ordinances; coordinate and review Transportation Impact Analysis reports for proposed development projects; provide assistance to citizens, developers, and public officials regarding transportation-related matters; participate in cross-jurisdictional transportation-related meetings (i.e. CAMPO, Wake Transit, NCDOT); perform other tasks as assigned. Requires knowledge of transportation planning, coordination of data collection and other research topics such as traffic counts, regional model data, coordination with neighboring jurisdictions on transportation planning issues, and concepts, principles, techniques and legal aspects of municipal planning. Position also requires ability to read and interpret ordinances, specifications, and plans; and strong organizational and communications skills. Requires Bachelor’s degree in city and regional planning, transportation planning, civil engineering, landscape architecture, public administration, geography, or a related field, and 1-2 years of experience in transportation planning. The hiring salary range is $53,334-61,00 DOQ with an annual pay for performance salary review, a very competitive benefits package, and a 5% Town contribution to 401(K).

This position works directly with other professional planning staff to perform work in administering the Town’s Unified Development Ordinance (UDO). This highly skilled position requires the ability to apply the UDO to specific situations and provide accurate and well-organized analysis to customers, applicants and various Town boards including the Planning Board, Board of Zoning Adjustment, Historic District Commission, Appearance Commission and Town Council. The primary purpose of this section is to assist the public and organizations, including: property owners, developers, surveyors, engineers, business owners, attorneys, real estate brokers, other in-house sections, departments and agencies of every level of government, and all other citizens in their understanding of the local development approval process(es) and the necessary steps required for their specific intended use of a parcel of land through interpretation and application of the local development ordinances. In addition, this individual is required to aid other sections within this department when special projects arise that warrant additional assistance.
