The Town of Matthews has an exciting job opportunity available for a Senior Planner. Located in Mecklenburg County, Matthews is a growing Town of 32,000 located about 10 miles southeast of downtown Charlotte. The Senior Planner will be responsible for numerous planning activities in the department including management of the rezoning process, site plan review, long range planning, presentations to boards and committees and work on special projects as needed. Among the many planning related projects the Town is currently working on are an entertainment district adjacent to a regional sports complex, a downtown mobility study and station area planning for the proposed Silver Line light rail project.

The ideal candidate will possess more than five years of experience in the planning field and AICP certification. The hiring rate is negotiable up to $66,625 depending on experience. The Triangle Clean Cities Coalition, housed at Triangle J Council of Governments, and works collaboratively with regional stakeholders to increase the adoption of alternative fuels and reduce our dependence on petroleum products. This position guides staff and clients through the full life cycle of a development project from pre-submittal due diligence to final construction. Represents Town as a development liaison innovator with Town departments and private development industry ensuring innovative best management processes (BMP) are developed, coordinated, communicated and implemented. – Analyzes plans and makes recommendations related to physical, social and economic development of the community and its neighborhoods
– Provides a point of high level pre-planning/project management and technical knowledge for process and permit related questions for internal and external clients from regulatory review to construction.
– Advises representatives from developers, architects, engineers, planners, property owners, town departments, town manager’s office, other governmental agencies and contractors on technical matters to verify data, coordinate various stages of work, and explain the Town’s processes, codes and procedures.
– Provides planning expertise to support land development plan review from preliminary to permit issuance in accordance with all applicable laws, regulations and adopted policies. Services can range from pre-submittal conferences, sketch review, when required.
– Performs complex office-based and field research which includes making site visits to neighborhoods.
– Prepares demographic information; prepares general or detailed design studies; prepares reports for Town Council consideration
– Providing GIS administration and maintenance of data sets and maps;

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
– Working understanding of: Subdivision, Site plans, infrastructure improvement plans, recorded maps, building construction plans and shop drawings.
– Federal, state and town codes, ordinances and regulations in processing land development and building permit applications as well as Town policies, development goals, processes, procedures, and standards as they apply to the development approval process
– Documents submitted in support of applications in compliance with federal, state and town laws, codes, ordinances and regulations. Customer service principles, theories and practices
– Planning, engineering, architectural, construction, and development terminology, practices, procedures and basic principles including development financing and construction practices.

The Mid-Carolina Council of Governments (MCCOG) is seeking a seasoned professional to lead the regional agency serving Cumberland, Harnett and Sampson Counties as well as the twenty-one cities and towns in those counties. This vibrant region is home to well over 500,000 people. The Council of Governments offices are located in Downtown Fayetteville, NC. The MCCOG houses the Area Agency on Aging and the Rural Planning Organization in addition to the other planning services provided.

The Executive Director serves as the leader and manager for organization. The Director has responsibility for staffing decisions, budget development and execution and managing the operations. The position is appointed by the Board of Directors which will annually set goals which will be the basis for the Director’s evaluation. He or she will direct the development of staff recommendations for consideration of the Board. The new Director will be expected to aggressively work to expand the services provided and seek additional funding to support service delivery.

The Regional Council is looking for a candidate with outstanding leadership, management, analytical and communication skills. A master’s degree in Planning, Public Administration or a related field is preferred with at least five years of management experience. Three additional years of management experience with a bachelor’s degree can substitute for a master’s degree. Professional planning recognition through the American Institute of Certified Planners is desirable but not required.

The candidate must be able to show previous positive leadership experience in a role of significant responsibility as well as skill as a manager of professional employees. He or she also needs to demonstrate excellent written and oral communication ability, including skill in presenting to large and small groups. The Marian Cheek Jackson Center is seeking a full-time program director to support the Northside Neighborhood Initiative (NNI), a historic housing justice partnership dedicated to renewing and building the vibrant, affordable, and inclusive neighborhoods residents have long envisioned. The NNI Program Director will lead efforts to continue to retain long-term neighbors in historically African-American neighborhoods in Chapel Hill/Carrboro, to attract diverse neighbors invested in the Northside communities, and to balance a market currently tipped towards student rentals. The Program Director will also co-lead land bank and housing development strategy and spearhead student engagement initiatives.
