General Statement of Job Duties:
GoTriangle is seeking a Capital Projects Intern to support the agency’s ongoing capital planning activities. The Capital Projects Intern will perform research, data collection, documentation, and public engagement activities. The Capital Projects Intern will learn about and gain experience with transit infrastructure planning for bus facilities and commuter rail. The Capital Projects Intern will work closely with transportation planners, engineers, and other GoTriangle staff.
• This internship will be 12-16 weeks for 40 hours/week
• Target start date June 1, 2020
• Must submit cover letter and resume to be considered for position.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Assist with data collection and report development for transportation studies and asset management efforts
• Perform best practices research, including engaging directly with peer agencies to obtain national insight on relevant programs and projects
• Support public engagement programs
• Assist in development of presentation materials
• Ability to transfer academic knowledge into practical business acumen
• Observe and apply standards associated with working in a professional environment
• Learning to implement objectives into a work plan that enables the project to meet its goals
• Listen well and demonstrate the willingness to adapt to a variety of challenges
• Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
• Pursuing a masters or bachelors degree in Planning, Public Administration, Public Policy, Engineering, Geographic Information Systems, or closely related field
• Recent college graduates within 1 year of matriculation from a similarly related degree program may also be considered
• Proficient in MS Office including Word, Excel, and Power Point

Working Conditions:
Works in an office environment where there is minimum exposure to dust, noise, or extreme temperatures.

The UNC Highway Safety Research Center is currently seeking applications for the 2020 Megan Cornog Memorial Highway Safety Scholarship. I am reaching out to you in an effort to make this opportunity available to a wide range of UNC-system graduate students.

The $1,000 scholarship is open to students who will be working toward a master’s degree at any of the University of North Carolina campuses in fall 2020 (this includes students in the first several years of a combined master’s/Ph.D. program). Candidates will be asked to contribute a 500-1,000 word essay and will also be evaluated on academic performance, extracurricular and professional activities, and work experience.

The purpose of the scholarship is to foster the education and professional development of graduate students with an interest in transportation safety-related areas, including, but not limited to, engineering, driver behavior, planning, public health and environmental issues.

Upson County, Georgia announces the opening of its 2020 Planning internship position, who will be considered to be a staff member of the Building and Zoning Department (B&ZD). The position is open to college students currently enrolled in accredited graduate urban and regional planning and public administration programs. Enrolled undergraduate students, studying in those disciplines, who possess exceptional skills and/or experience, may be considered. This is a paid, full time (40 hrs/wk) position for twelve (12) to sixteen (16) weeks, depending upon the availability of the student intern. The 12-16 week employment period shall fall between May 1 and September 1, 2020. The position is open until filled.

The intern will be under the direct supervision of the Director of Building and Zoning, a career Planner, who served as an intern himself and supervised an intern program for five years. The successful internship candidate will become an employee of Upson County, Georgia. Partial funding for this position is from a Verizon Foundation grant, through the Association of County Commissioners of Georgia (ACCG) Civic Affairs Foundation, Inc. Due to that funding, certain reporting and availability requirements must be fulfilled and two deliverables must be provided by the end of the internship – a first draft, tiny home ordinance and a first draft, gateway overlay ordinance. The intern will also assist with the day-to-day operations of the B&ZD and perform other duties as assigned. Covid-19 circumstances may alter the grant-related portion of this internship.
